Hall(Editor) ISBN: 1402072465 Publisher: Springer - 2003-01-01 Hardcover | 2 Edition | 752 Pages | List Price: $245.00 (USD) Over the past thirty-five years, a substantial amount of theoretical and empirical scholarly research has been developed across the discipline domains of Transportation. This research has been synthesized into a systematic handbook that examines the scientific concepts, methods, and principles of this growing and evolving field. The Handbook of Transportation Science outlines the field of transportation as a scientific discipline that transcends transportation technology and methods. Whether by car, truck, airplane - or by a mode of transportation that has not yet been conceived - transportation obeys fundamental properties. The science of transportation defines these properties, and demonstrates how our knowledge of one mode of transportation can be used to explain the behavior of another. Transportation scientists are motivated by the desire to explain spatial interactions that result in movement of people or objects from place to place. Its methodologies draw from physics, operations research, probability and control theory. The eighteen chapters in the Second Edition of the Handbook of Transportation Science are written by the leading researchers in Transportation Science as a continual effort to explore the scientific nature and state-of-the- art of the field. As such, it is directed to all the research and practitioner domains of transportation. It has been expanded from the first edition through the addition of four chapters. Chapter 15 extends the networks section of the book by addressing supply chains, distribution networks and logistics. While the emphasis is on freight transportation, the principles for network design extend to other applications, such as public economics. Chapters 16 through 18 fall in a new section on transportation economics. Chapter 16 addresses revenue management, a relatively recent topic in transportation, which has had substantial impact on the airline industry in particular. Chapter 17 presents spatial interaction models, which provides a mechanism for analyzing patterns of development. Chapter 18 provides the principles of transportation economics, with emphasis on pricing and public policy. In addition to the new chapters, the original chapters have been updated and revised ~ Engineering and Technology Management Tools and Applications (Artech House Technology Management and Professional Development Library) Summary: Career success for engineers who wish to move up the management ladder, requires more than an understanding of engineering and technological principles - it demands a profound understanding of today’s business management issues and principles. Krein Publisher: Springer Publication Date: 2001-10-01 Number Of Pages: 412 ~ Fuzzy Control Systems Design and Analysis: A Linear Matrix Inequality Approach Author: Kazuo Tanaka, Fuzzy Control Systems Design and Analysis: A Linear Matrix Inequality Approach ISBN: 0471323241 | Publisher: Wiley-Interscience | Number Of Pages: 320 | PDF | 4.36 mb A comprehensive treatment of model-based fuzzy control systems This volume offers full coverage of the systematic framework for the stability and design of nonlinear fuzzy control systems. Building on the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, authors Tanaka and Wang address a number of important issues in fuzzy control systems, including stability analysis, systematic design procedures, incorporation of performance specifications, numerical implementations, and practical applications. Issues that have not been fully treated in existing texts, such as stability analysis, systematic design, and performance analysis, are crucial to the validity and applicability of fuzzy control methodology. Fuzzy Control Systems Design and Analysis addresses these issues in the framework of parallel distributed compensation, a controller structure devised in accordance with the fuzzy model. This balanced treatment features an overview of fuzzy control, modeling, and stability analysis, as well as a section on the use of linear matrix inequalities (LMI) as an approach to fuzzy design and control. It also covers advanced topics in model-based fuzzy control systems, including modeling and control of chaotic systems. Later sections offer practical examples in the form of detailed theoretical and experimental studies of fuzzy control in robotic systems and a discussion of future directions in the field. Fuzzy Control Systems Design and Analysis offers an advanced treatment of fuzzy control that makes a useful reference for researchers and a reliable text for advanced graduate students in the field. ~ Linear and Nonlinear Programming, Second Edition ISBN: 1402075936 Author: David G. Luenberger Publisher: Springer Edition: 2 edition (September 30, 2003) Hardcover: 516 pages URL: /http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=songstech-20&path=ASIN%2F1402075936 Summary: Linear and Nonlinear Programming is considered a classic textbook in Optimization. While it is a classic, it also reflects modern theoretical insights. These insights provide structure to what might otherwise be simply a collection of techniques and results, and this is valuable both as a means for learning existing material and for developing new results. One major insight of this type is the connection between the purely analytical character of an optimization problem, expressed perhaps by properties of the necessary conditions, and the behavior of algorithms used to solve a problem. This was a major theme of the first edition of this book and the second edition expands and further illustrates this relationship. Linear and Nonlinear Programming covers the central concepts of practical optimization techniques. It is designed for either self-study by professionals or classroom work at the undergraduate or graduate level for technical students. Like the field of optimization itself, which involves many classical disciplines, the book should be useful to system analysts, operations researchers, numerical analysts, management scientists, and other specialists from the host of disciplines from which practical optimization applications are drawn ~ Linear Programming: Foundations and Extensions (International Series in Operations Research & Management Science) ISBN: 0792398041 Author: Robert J. Vanderbei Publisher: Springer Publication Date: 1996-12-15 Number Of Pages: 440 This book focuses largely on constrained optimization. It begins with a substantial treatment of linear programming and proceeds to convex analysis, network flows, integer programming, quadratic programming, and convex optimization. Along the way, dynamic programming and the linear complementarity problem are touched on as well. This book aims to be the first introduction to the topic. Specific examples and concrete algorithms precede more abstract topics ~ Agile Estimating and Planning ISBN: 0131479415 Author: Mike Cohn Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR URL: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0131479415 Supplier: YOKNALL Summary: "Traditional, deterministic approaches to planning and estimating simply don't cut it on the slippery slopes of today's dynamic, change-driven projects. Mike Cohn's breakthrough book gives us not only the philosophy, but also the guidelines and a proven set of tools that we need to succeed in planning, estimating, and scheduling projects with a high uncertainty factor. At the same time, the author never loses sight of the need to deliver business value to the customer each step of the way." —Doug DeCarlo, author of eXtreme Project Management: Using Leadership, Principles and Tools to Deliver Value in the Face of Volatility (Jossey-Bass, 2004) "We know how to build predictive plans and manage them. But building plans that only estimate the future and then embrace change, challenge most of our training and skills. In Agile Estimating and Planning, Mike Cohn once again fills a hole in the Agile practices, this time by showing us a workable approach to Agile estimating and planning. Mike delves into the nooks and crannies of the subject and anticipates many of the questions and nuances of this topic. Students of Agile processes will recognize that this book is truly about agility, bridging many of the practices between Scrum and ExtremeProgramming." —Ken Schwaber, Scrum evangelist, Agile Alliance cofounder, and signatory to the Agile Manifesto "In Agile Estimating and Planning, Mike Cohn has, for the first time, brought together most everything that the Agile community has learned about the subject. The book is clear, well organized, and a pleasant and valuable read. It goes into all the necessary detail, and at the same time keeps the reader's burden low. We can dig in as deeply as we need to, without too much detail before we need it. The book really brings together everything we have learned about Agile estimation and planning over the past decade. It will serve its readers well." —Ron Jeffries, www.XProgramming.com, author of Extreme Programming Installed (Addison-Wesley, 2001) and Extreme Programming Adventures in C# (Microsoft Press, 2004) ~ International Project Management Bennet P. Turns out the book is interesting enough to keep my attention. Large print makes for a quick and easy read. Plenty of diagrams as well Even non-project managers can find this useful I'm not a project manager by training, (I've had no formal 'lessons' in the craft,) but I do perform the work of a PM, and this book has been a life-saver at times. It has helped me understand the basics of what I need to do in my current role, and helped me understand what to focus on first to ensure I don't flounder too much. Thank you Mr. Lewis for putting this book together! (I also have your more basic "Fundamentals of Project Management" paperback, also a good buy Good project management book, weak on customer requirements I haven't completely read the book yet, but it's been very helpful so far. The book is definitely a page turner and does not get too wrapped up on dry theory. The author rapidly fires through most all of the key topics for project management, often citing experts in the field that you can read to learn more The author points out that most projects fail because of poor definition. It's unfortunate his book doesn't fully describe how to prevent this, especially when it comes to really connecting to customers and understand what they need out of the project. This might be very obvious if your customers of the project work in your same firm. Of course you may also be the customer of the project. If you're not though, you're going to need more than this book to deliver the *right* product Excellent for Project Managers I am a student in the Project Management Program at Northwestern University, this book will give you the fundamental of Project Management, graphic and explanation are great Excellent book for all PMs This is an excellent book for all project managers. The concepts are presented with lots of examples which makes it easy to read. The chapter on EAV is great http://mihd.net/5.38/0071360506.rar.html ~ Paperback: 320 pages Publisher: Gateway; 2nd edition (February 1, 2002) Language: English ISBN: 0717133079 Reviewer: Jeane L Manning (British Columbia, Canada) Living Energies gives the understandings necessary for revitalizing Planet Earth -- for understanding which human actions either enhance or destroy the vitality of our forests, soils, air and water. I tell people about Living Energies more often than I promote my own books! Living Energies is the best book in the world for understanding the extensive wisdom of the Austrian forester and genius Viktor Schauberger. Academics, politicians and many other decision-makers should all study this book, if they can set aside any prejudices they might have regarding some inclusions of spirituality in a science book. It's the big picture! Jeane Manning Reviewer: Frank D. Germano - See all my reviews I have every book written by Callum Coats on the Schauberger subject. This book, if you only buy one of them, is the definative book to get. I would basically call it a complet Schauberger reference work, as it contains all of the material that will later be expanded in the "Eco-Technology" series - which contain more thorough descriptions of Viktor's work. This book is great on its own, however, and will not dissapoint anyone interested in learning more about the "water wizard" - Viktor Schauberger. I highly recommend this book as a great starting point for study on everything from understanding the vortex, implosion technology, water- power in general, Schauberger's inventions, his forestry upbringing, and as a general biography, this book can't be beat. ~ Scientific American - 2006 September PDF | 6.26 MB | Download Link ~ Dust Explosions in the Process Industries, Third Edition Summary Unfortunately, dust explosions are common and costly in a wide array of industries such as petrochemical, food, paper and pharmaceutical.
