Electric Machinery Fundamentals (Power & Energy)
By Stephen J. Chapman
* Publisher: McGraw Hill Higher Education
* Number Of Pages: 746
* Publication Date: 2004-05-01
* ISBN / ASIN: 0071151559
Review:
Sets an Excellent Standard
I have three standard textbooks on electric machines, and the best one by far is Stephen Chapman's Electric Machinery Fundamentals (fourth edition). Chapman
has the rare ability to strike a golden balance between theory and practice, and between rigour and informality, such that the theoretical actually illuminates the
practical. His discussion on power transformers is the best I have seen anywhere, and he maintains that same high quality throughout the book. Along the way, he
has even managed to correct a subtle misconception that I had held for several years concerning Lenz's law. The print quality is superb and the diagrams are
sharp and clear. I would like to answer a comment that another reviewer had against this book, namely, that this book uses log or semilog scales. I think we
should be grateful that Mr. Chapman had the good judgment to use log or semilog scales, or else we are going to have a book that is hundreds of miles long and
wide!

Instrumentation Reference Book, Third Edition
By Walt Boyes
* Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
* Number Of Pages: 1062
* Publication Date: 2002-11
* ISBN / ASIN: 0750671238
Instrumentation is not a clearly defined subject, having a 'fuzzy' boundary with a number of other disciplines. Often categorized as either 'techniques' or
'applications' this book addresses the various applications that may be needed with reference to the practical techniques that are available for the
instrumentation or measurement of a specific physical quantity or quality. This makes it of direct interest to anyone working in the process, control and
instrumentation fields where these measurements are essential. The latest edition of the Instrumentation Reference Book is a comprehensive and authoritative
collection of technical information, which is of direct practical value to instrumentation and control engineers as well as all instrument technicians and users. It
is also an indispensable addition to any academic library for the benefit of engineering and science students. Written by a collection of specialist contributors
under the guidance of Walt Boyes, the third edition of this book (developed from the work originally published for more than 40 years as Jones Instrument
Technology) has been updated to include chapters on the fieldbus standards, reliability, EMC, 'virtual instrumentation', fibre optics, smart and intelligent
transmitters, analyzers, level and flow meters, and many more. * Comprehensive and authoritative collection of technical information * Written by a collection of

Newnes Interfacing Companion
Computers, Transducers, Instrumentation and Signal Processing
Author: Tony Fischer-Cripps
Publisher: Newnes
Hardcover: 320 pages
Preface The overall aim of this book is to present transducer devices, computer interfacing and instrumentation electronics in a succinct and memorable
fashion. The book combines physics, computer science and electrical engineering in a science/engineering context. Starting from the transfer of physical
phenomena to electrical signals, the book presents a comprehensive treatment of computer interfacing and finishes with signal conditioning, data analysis and
digital filtering. The book covers a wide scope but contains sufficient detail to allow a practical application of the theory. Detailed explanations are given, even
of the most difficult of concepts. The review problems offer a level of complexity which provides sufficient challenge to impart a sense of achievement upon
their completion. The accompanying project work reinforces the theoretical work while allowing the reader to gain the satisfaction and experience of actually
constructing a working interfacing circuit that can be used on any personal computer with a serial port. The book will be useful for students who are new to the
subject, and will serve as a handy reference for experienced engineers who wish to refresh their knowledge of a particular topic

Power System Harmonics
By Jos Arrillaga,&nbspNeville R. Watson,
* Publisher: Wiley
* Number Of Pages: 412
* Publication Date: 2003-12-02
* ISBN / ASIN: 0470851295
Book Description:
Harmonic distortion problems include equipment overheating, motor failures, capacitor failure and inaccurate power metering. The topic of power system
harmonics was covered for the first time 20 years ago and the first edition has become a standard reference work in this area. Unprecedented developments in
power electronic devices and their integration at all levels in the power system require a new look at the causes and effects of these problems, and the state of
hardware and software available for harmonic assessment. Following the successful first edition, this second edition of Power System Harmonics maintains the
practical approach to the subject and discusses the impact of advanced power electronic technology on instrumentation, simulation, standards and active
harmonic elimination techniques. Features include: * A new chapter on modern digital instrumentation techniques. * Added sections on active filters and
modern distorting devices such as FACTS devices, multilevel conversion, current source, voltage source inverters and turn-OFF-related power electronic devices.
* References to international standards for harmonics and inter-harmonics. * A CD-ROM containing harmonics simulation programmes. * Numerical examples of
technique application. Offering a comprehensive understanding of power systems, this book is an asset to power engineers involved in the planning, design and
operation of power system generation, transmission and distribution. Researchers and postgraduate students in the field will also benefit from this useful reference

The Electrical Transmission and Distribution Reference Book
popularly known as the "T&D Book," is a standard reference for utility engineers, and many colleges have adopted it as a basic textbook. Since its first
appearance as a Westinghouse Electric Company publication, three generations of power engineers have used this book, both as a core technical reference and
as a tutorial on the finer points of power delivery system design and operation. ABB Inc. has published the fifth edition. This edition not only continues the
traditional, practical focus of the T&D Book's creators, but has added R&D activities focused on meeting the needs of the 21st century with new equipment,
designs, and technology. The book comes along with a CD-ROM, which is an invaluable search resource for all readers.
The material presented in the book is the result of research, investigation and practical application by many engineers and scientists, including cooperative
studies with electric utilities, conductor and cable manufacturers, communications companies and industrial power users.
This is a "must-have" book for all power systems engineers and for electrical engineers in general.

Number Of Pages: 688
Everything you need to use MATLAB and SIMULINK for interactive modeling.
With today's personal computers, students have the power to create simulations of electric machinery that allow them to study transient and control performance
and test conceptual designs. The outcome of these simulations can reveal behaviors that may not have been readily apparent from the theory and design of the
machines. This book and its accompanying website offer a complete treatment from background theory and models to implementation and verification
techniques for simulations and linear analysis of frequently studies machine systems. They include: Three- and single-phase transformers, modeling of core
saturation. Three- and single-phase induction machines. Three- and six-phase synchronous machines, wound and permanent magnet field. DC machines: four-
quadrant drive operation, starting, speed and torque control.
Induction machine drives: volts/hertz control and field-oriented control Synchronous machines in power system studies: multi-machine system, shaft torsionals,
excitation control. Synchronous machine drives: self-control and permanent magnet field. Every chapter of Dynamic Simulation of Electric Machinery includes
exercises and projects that can be explored using the accompanying software. A full chapter is devoted to the use of MATLAB and SIMULINK, and an appendix
provides a convenient overview of key numerical methods used. Dynamic Simulation of Electric Machinery provides professional engineers and students with a
complete toolkit for modeling and analyzing power systems on their desktop computers
